Well, sadly we’ve come to the end of the 2008 regular season. Our beloved Cardinals did not make the playoff for the second year in a row. But just like last year, it wasn’t without them doing everything they could to play in October. The player’s that is. The front office & coaching staff let them down big time. But I’ll get to that later. They’ve got one game to left in the year, and if they win & sweep the Reds right out of town, they’ll finish ten games above .500 for the season. And that’s something no one, not you, not me, not anyone who follows the game of baseball realistically thought this team had a snowballs chance in hell of accomplishing.

You know, I’m going to miss this ball club. After this terrible last month, I didn’t think I would. In fact, due to Tonys never ending shenanigans, MO’s inability to provide sufficient help when a player got hurt, (it didn’t help that Tony said he couldn’t find playing time for said help even if it did show up! Genius my ass!) I really stopped caring & watching the games with much interest. But as the season comes to a close, I begin to look back on everything they have accomplished & started to appreciate just how special a team they really were. They may not be the best Cardinals team of all time, but they have certainly earned my respect. Just like too many recent Cardinal editions, they took hit after hit after hit, player after player went down with injury. And just like that little pink bunny, they never quit. Sure there were some rough games where even I turned the channel in disgust. But the players that were on the field never ever quit. And in spite of their GM’s & managers best efforts, they’ll finish with a winning record & a special place in my heart.

Now, about TLR’s shenigans. What the hell was he doing playing Aaron F’ing Miles, Adam F’ing Kennedy, BOOG & Floopy in the outfield? All the while Stav Infection & Crab Man, two real, actual outfielders sat with their thumbs up their asses on the bench. And the poster child of the youth movement, the next great Cardinals center fielder, sits at home playing XBOX & working on his gangsta hooping skillz. Now I rarely curse, but what the fuck was Tony thinking? And a better question, what the fuck is MO doing letting Tony get away with pulling that crap? I don’t for one second buy that Colby is & was still nursing his hurt knee. If the kid is dunking on the boyz down in his home town, the knee is fine. So why play below average middle infielders in the out outfield? That’s a damn good question. But sadly, one we’ll never get the real answer to thanks to the cojonesless STL media.

I have one more bone to pick with TLR, and especially pitching coach Dave Duncan. They have gone on record saying the closer of the future, Chris“Young Pitcher” Perez throws too many pitches past the batters, and he needs to rework his delivery, and he needs to lose a lot of weight. Are you fucking kidding me? Since when is it a bad thing when your closer comes in & throws the ball past the batters? And yes, while it’s true his control on some days is less than desired, and he still needs to work on that slider of his, there is absolutely no reason whatsoever for him to have to totally change everything that has made him a success at this point, just to appease his hall of fame pitching coach. When will Dave Duncan learn that yes, SOME PITCHERS CAN BE SUCCESSFUL UP IN THE ZONE. ESPECIALLY WHEN THEY THROW 97 FUCKING MILES AN HOUR!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHH!! I swear if this is Anthony Reyes 2.0, I’m going to seriously hurt someone. Leave YP alone Dave. If you don’t, I promise you there will be hell to pay. You have been warned.

Other than that, I really don’t have a whole lot to say. It’s been a great season. Despite all the bumps along the way, it really has been a great year. I’m glad it’s almost over, yet I’m sad it’s coming to an end. In a perfect world, they’d be playing deep into October. But this is far from a perfect world. I highly doubt I’ll be watching much baseball this October, with the Cards & Yankee’s out of the running, I really have no dog left in the hunt. But if you are watching, I like the Angels, they are a really good ball club. They pitch, hit & field at a super high level. I would consider them the favorite in the AL. If the Twins get in I like them too. But not to get to the WS. On the NL side of things, I really could care less. I guess the Dodgers are my favorite out of the bunch. If you’ve read any of my work in the past, you should know I couldn’t care less about the teams out east & in the central & wild card in either league. So my teams to watch if you are going to watch should come as no surprise.

Well that’s it for this season, and sadly maybe forever. I can’t honestly say if I’ll be back next year to follow the Cardinals progress as they try to win their NL leading 11th World Series. Or for that matter this winter & off season as MO tries to make them a true playoff contender. A lot has changed in my world over the last 10 months since dads death & I no longer have the time or energy to update this blog on a regular basis. And I hate that, I really do. A blog with this name quite frankly deserves a better host who can update it on a regular basis. And I just don’t think I am the right host for the job anymore. Things change & life must go on, with or without me giving the world my two cents about my favorite baseball team. I can’t speak for Huge, but since he hasn’t been here all season, I highly doubt he’ll have much time in the future to give the world his thoughts. So this very well could be goodbye, but I wouldn’t bet on it. I’m sure Tony will do something to piss me off or MO will make a big splash at the winter meetings. If so, I’ll just have to jump on here & tell the world what I think. Spoiler alert, MO hinted at trying to acquire Hanley Ramirez from the Fish on last nights FSN MW post game. IF that happens, and he doesn’t give up the farm, I guarantee you I’ll be back to sing his praises.

I hate goodbyes, so I’m not going to say goodbye. This is not goodbye. I’m just going to say thank you to every one who has taken the time to read my rambling, incoherent babblings. It’s been a blast, and I am truly grateful to each & every person who has stopped by to see what we here at ATAW are all about.

So till next time, if there ever is a next time, this is Jonny Bone reminding everyone, yes, even you. That the light at the end of the tunnel may be you.

So be sure that you always, no matter what, keep makin it bounce.

PEACE.

What a bad day. It is truly a sad day. LeRoi Moore, saxophonist for the Dave Matthews Band died Tuesday afternoon from complications stemming from injuries he suffered from an ATV accident back in June. I didn’t even know he was hurt & sick. Like most things, because I’ve spent the last 5 years taking care of dad, I’ve lost track of what I considered my favorite band. But I still never stopped listening to their music. I can’t believe he’s gone. It seams like just yesterday I made the road trip to Cville & watched the band play an amazing concert with my friend Jeff at UVA. He’s a big DMB fan as well. I can’t believe that was 2001. How could that be? This is just awful, awful news.

On top of that, IZZY’s career could be over. If true, this truly is a sad day in Cardinal land. It’s a damn shame he didn’t get to go out on his own terms with at least 300 saves. He’s taken so much heat the past three seasons, it’s just so wrong for him & his family if this really is the end of his career.

This was just bad, bad day. Life is just so unfair. RIP LeRoi. Thanks for the memories IZZY.

Bad day. Bad, bad day.

Well that was a fun 4th of July weekend wasn’t it? Every one enjoy the fireworks, BBQ’s & picnics? Wasn’t watching the Cardinals take care of those north side losers just awesome? I mean the way the O ate “Big Z” alive Friday night, and then beat those two soft tossing lefty’s into the ground Saturday & Sunday afternoons was a thing of beauty. Wasn’t it?

Wait, that didn’t happen. That didn’t happen at all. The Cards were one Kerry Wood blow up away from being swept at home by the freaking flubs! What the hell? Instead of taking care of business & at least winning the series, the Cards looked pathetic all weekend. Except for two 9th innings, Friday night & Saturday afternoon, they looked like the last place they wanted to be was on a diamond playing baseball. That shouldn’t be the case of a team 2 1/2 games back of the division leader, playing the division leader at home. It was embarrassing & quite frankly I’m ashamed of the effort the Cardinals put forth this past weekend. It’s not usually how a Tony La Russa team plays. Especially when his teams play the flubs.

I’ll give the Cards this, they were totally bent over & screwed in the 9th inning Friday night. Ted Barrett, the home plate ump, must have had early dinner reservations, because his strike zone that inning was some one of the worst examples of bad umpiring I’ve seen all season long. And believe me, we’ve all seen a lot of bad umpiring. It’s ruining this great game we love. I have no idea why, but umps these days have become so lazy & inconsistent with their calls. It’s no wonder good old Bud wants to bring in instant replay. I know it would in theory only be for home runs, but it’s a good first step in jerking these umps off their high horses. Their inability to call a consistent strike zone has players, coaches & fans at our whits ends. Some thing needs to be done ASAP before it gets any worse. They are killing baseball. And if Ted Barrett isn’t suspended or fined or punished in some way for what he did Friday night, Dewitt should call up his good friend Bud & give him an ear full. Because Ted may have not only cost the Cards that game, he may have cost them a chance of making the playoffs.

And don’t even get me starting on the whole Jim Edmond’s coming back home BS. Instead of sitting on their hands like real fans should, the “best fans in baseball” gave Jimmy Hollywood a standing O, not once, but twice. Once when he took his spot in center & the other when he made his first plate appearance. I get fans wanting to show Hollywood some love. The entire time he wore the Birds on the Bat he was my favorite Cardinal. But you can’t give a standing O to a player wearing a C on the front of his jersey. You just can’t. They are supposed to be our most bitter & hated rival. Well if that were true, the fans would have only given Hollywood a polite golf style clap when he took his first at bat, and that’s it. No standing O’s, no loud cheers. Nothing more, nothing less. Yes he was a great Cardinal, but he plays for the enemy now. And enemy’s don’t give their enemy’s standing O’s. Period.

Now where was I? Oh yeah, Good teams have a winning record at home & at least play .500 on the road. So far this year the Cards have had no problems with the above .500 record on the road, they are 24-19 to be exact. And thanks to early season success they are 26-21 at home. But if they keep playing they way they have the last couple months, they won’t have a winning record at home for very long. For whatever reason, especially the last couple months, they can’t muster a winning series at home to save their life.

And in a way, that’s what the Cards are playing for now. Their playoffs lives that is. With their pathetic display this weekend, they let the Brew Crew jump in from of them in the Wild Card race & into second place in the division. OH and by the by, the Brew Crew just added Cy Young award winner CC Sabathia to their starting rotation. Fandamntastic. Now I’m not advocating that the Cards blow up their weak, but getting stronger farm system for a three month rental like CC. It’s just aggravating to see a division rival get stronger, while we all know the Cards are going to do absolutely nothing to improve themselves this season. MO & Dewitt have said as much all along. They’ll make a trade or pick up a DFA’d vet, if it makes the Cards stronger this year & beyond. But they are no longer in the business of mortgaging the future to pay for the present. If you have any doubts about their new found business plan, read this article from this past weekend.

Let’s be honest folks, no one, not me, not you, not any one besides Tony La Russa himself thought the Birds had a snow balls chance in hell of being 50-40 the week before the All Star break. It really doesn’t make much sence for them to go for broke & try to win it all this season like the Brew Crew is doing. The plan all along was to take your lumps in 08, and then bring the pain in 09 & beyond. What sucks is I’m so torn right now. I really want them to go get more pitching help & get another more consistent bat to hit behind Albert. But I totally understand & support the plan to stay the course.

But there is a way for the Cards to stay the course AND keep winning and hopefully over take the flubs, Brew Crew or both, and make the playoffs. Here’s what they should do. Call up the kids down in Memphis, and by kids I mean Colby, Garcia, Anderson & Anthony. Trade Lohse, La Rue and IZ2 for some one that can help this year & next. Like I don’t know, maybe a REAL SS or 2nd baseman and DEFINITELY a LOOGY for the pen. Not all in the same deal, but if it worked out that way it’d be fine. DFA Mildew & AK, and possibly FLO. Sending him to Memphis to work on his pitches is probably the move, but I don’t think his deal allows for him to be sent down. Ship DUNK’s butt back down to Memphis till he remember how to hit. And this time don’t bring him back up till he’s really ready. And if he’s never ready, so be it. His father’s feelings be damned.

Go with an every day outfield of Colby in right, Ankiel in center & LUD in left. (Side note, trading LUD right now to oh I don’t know, Tampa for one of their bright young stars isn’t a bad idea either MO. Just sayin) Then you’d have Joey Bombs & Skippy on the bench. (In this fantasy world, Barton goes on the 60 day DL for the rest of the year) The starting five would be LOOP, Pineiro, Welley, Anthony & Anderson. Not great, but not as bad as it is now with Mildew starting Wednesday night. The only down side to this plan is “uber” sub Mini Me is your every day 2nd baseman, IF they didn’t put the one they traded Lohse for in right away, which I think they should. If they did, Mini Me stays as the back up 2nd baseman. Hey, I didn’t say it was perfect plan did I?

Now, Wagonmaker was just cleared today to start throwing, and he’ll do that for one week & then be reevaluated to see if he can step it up or shut it back down. If he can come back by mid August & be the Wagonmaker we all know & love, that starting five looks a whole lot better. Carp keeps getting rave reviews as well, but I still stand by my statement that he won’t provide any thing positive for the Birds this season.

Now, if every thing worked perfectly, IZZY would be moved back to his closers role & be the IZZY of 07 & not the hurt IZZY of 06 & 08. FRANK, Perez, Springer & KMac would split the 6th, 7th & 8th inning set up rolls. With Villone & new LOOGY on the left side of the pen, that leaves Puppy Kicker or Pineiro if Wagonmaker is healthy, as the long inning guy. Yadda, Glaus, Boog, new guy, & Albert in the infield, LUD (or kid from Tampa), Ankiel & Colby in the OF, Joey Bombs, Skippy, Mini Me, Anderson on the bench. LOOP, Wagonmaker, Welley, Anthony & Garcia in the rotation, that team has a damn good chance to make some serious noise & scare the hell out of the high priced flubs & win the it all now, the future be damned Brew Crew.

But alas, this is not a perfect world. The odds of all of that happening are about as good as me marrying Adrian Lima & winning $500 Million in the Power Ball lottery. Sure it could happen, but it won’t. I like MO, he’s not afraid to take chances & shake things up. He’s got cojones. But he doesn’t have this big of a pair. It’d be awesome if he did though uh? We fans can dream though can’t we?

I don’t have much to say about the up coming series vs the Phills. Except it’s going to be U G L Y. The Cards face two tough lefty’s in Hamels & Moyer. And yet another lefty named J.A. Happ who took Brett *cough* wife beater *cough* Myers spot in their rotation. He didn’t last 5 innings in his first & only start last Friday. But that doesn’t mean much because guys like him are the Cards kryptonite. Pineiro, Mildew & LOOP are the starters for the Cards. Sigh. Mildew? Seriously? No, seriously? The guy who couldn’t get 3 outs last week in only his second appearance out of the bull pen is going to start Wednesday night? WHY???? It makes absolutely no sence what so ever to have him make a start. When the Cards are literally on the brink of fading into black or staying in the race to the bitter end, they can’t afford to give away any more games like they’ve been doing almost the entire first half. And I know this hurts for Tony, Dave & MO to hear, and they don’t want to listen, but Mildew is done. Toast. Burt toast actually. It’s long past time for them to cut their loses & move on. They will never get their money back, they will never get the players back they traded for him. Enough is enough, stop putting us fans & the team through this drama. LET IT GO.

Seriously

After the Cards leave Philly, they finish the first half of the season at their second home, PNC Park in Pittsburgh. Where they’ll face even more tough lefty’s. I can easily see this road trip going one of three ways. They will either go 0-6, 3-3 or 4-2. There’s no in between with this team. They are either great, bad, or really bad. They are the precise definition of the word oxymoron. You just can’t figure this team out. One week they play like crap, the next week they can’t lose. You never know which team is going to show up. I guess that’s what makes watching them so fun, and so very aggravating at the same time. It sucks for them that they don’t get four days off for the All Star break. They could really use the extra day off next Thursday after the first half of the season they’ve had. I know I could as well. This team is wearing me out.

Well that’s all the knowledge I have in me that needed to be dropped. Here’s hoping the Cards have a six game winning streak in them to close out the first half. It’s been a hell of a ride so far, & I hope they aren’t ready for it to stop just yet. I know I’m not.

Till next time, this is Jonny Bone reminding every one, yes, even you. That the light at the end of the tunnel may be you.

Always keep makin it bounce.

PEACE.

Truly this is a sad day in Cardinal Nation. Because you see, our loudest pro Cardinal voice in the media has gone silent. Will Leitch has left his position as editor of Deadspin for bigger & supposedly better things. (New York Magazine? Are you F’king kidding me Will? Are you sure that’s even a real magazine?)

Any way, I don’t look at this like every one else does. Meaning the rest of the planet simply sees that Deadspin is losing its editor, it’s leader, hell even it’s very reason for existing in Will’s exodus. No, I take this loss a lot more personally because of what color I bleed. And that’s Cardinal Red.

Like most Cardinals fans, I suffer from a sever case of inferiority complex when it comes to other MLB teams. And that simply shouldn’t be the case. No team other than the Yankees has won more World Series rings. We have more NL pennants than you can shake a stick at. Cooperstown wouldn’t be half the place it is today without our legends filling up the joint. We currently have the greatest player in the game playing 1st & hitting 3rd every single night. We have the third winningest manager in MLB history leading our boys to hard fought victory’s far more often than any of the so called “experts” thought they would back in March. We have absolutely no reason what so ever to feel inferior to any one. Yet for what ever reason, there it is, not to far in the back of our minds, always there, nagging at us that for what ever reason, we aren’t as good or as appreciated as we should be.

I blame ESPN. HA! No really, I do. But they are not alone in this, they are simply the biggest & easiest target. They focus so much on the Sawx, Yanks, Met’s, flubs, Stros, & what ever west coast team currently has the longest winning steak that week, that teams like the Cardinals get over looked. Would it surprise you to find out that only two of those teams have won a ring this decade other than the Cards? With the coverage they get, you’d think they were the only teams that play major league baseball. And some part of me understands why they get so much coverage. I get it, they are all in “large markets” with “large market TV audiences.”

And there is it. TV. That’s why those clubs get more coverage than any other clubs in baseball. Not because they are good, (I’ll give you $5 Trillion internet dollars if you can tell me how many times the flubs & Sawx made the playoffs between 1980 & 2007. I’ll give you a hint, collectively they don’t have as many appearances as the Cardinals have during the same time frame.) not because they have the best player, but simply because they have the biggest audiences. And big audiences mean, you guessed it, big bucks. And there it is again, money. It all comes down to money. Those teams can supposedly make more money than a team in a “fly over state”. And that’s why they are the lead story on SportsCenter during baseball season. You know when that is, it’s the 25 day period when it’s warm outside & the NFL isn’t in season.

What the hell was I talking about?

Oh yeah, Will.

In a world filled with east coast bias’s and over hyped century old cursed losers, there was Will calmly, politely, never braggadociously, reminding the world that yes, there was a major league baseball team in St. Louis. And the Cardinals were in fact one of the games greatest teams. For the last 3 + years we finally had a voice, a loud voice even, in the main stream media (I know he hates that term. but it’s not like he’s going to read this right?) that was on our side. Although his Rick Ankiel posts may have been mercilessly mocked by the commenter’s after them, at least his posts were usually positive in nature. And no one did a better job of describing what it was like to be a Cardinal fan than Will did during that magical month of October in 2006. So forgive me if you will if I feel a little sadder, even dare I say, a little betrayed today than I did yesterday.

I’ve never met Will, hell I’ve never even exchanged emails with the guy. I did send him one once asking him if he would be so kind as to take a look at the site & give me his honest opinion. But I never heard back from him. But you know how it is, from their writings you think you know a person, even though you really have no idea what that person it like. And ever since Deadspin came online, I feel like I’ve gotten to know Will. I feel like we’re not so different, even though we don’t share the same need to be famous & leave the mid west. We don’t share political parties. We don’t share the same fondness for oversized leather jackets & bad hair cuts. But we do share the same “looserness” mentality. The same self deprecating humor. We both have a lot of bad luck with women. Except he’s got me beat, at least he’s seen one naked. (I blog from my mom’s basement, don’t tell me that doesn’t surprise you) We share the same mid west politeness. The same love for not doing manual labor. And even the same hope & desire for a better today, and a much better tomorrow. And last but not least, what really is only real thing we have is common, is the same love for the St. Louis Cardinals. And we both have a blog to voice to the world our thoughts about the Cards. Of course his voice is & always will be much, MUCH louder than mine.

But now, his voice has gone silent. We Cardinal fans are once again going to be completely & utterly ignored by the national media. And quite honestly, that hurts a little. Here we are, the second greatest team in the history of baseball, with the greatest player & one of the greatest managers the game has ever seen, having a simply amazing season considering all the injuries we’ve had, and yet, no one will notice & no one will care. Oh well, such is life as a Cardinal fan. It sucks. And then my friends, you die. I guess we’ll just have to make them notice us come October. Just like we did in 2006.

So thanks for every thing Will. It goes without saying, but you will be missed. Deadspin, and the internet as a whole, just won’t be the same without you. We Cardinal fans will miss you most of all. Fare the well Will. Good luck, GOD bless, and goodbye. I wish you the best of luck at your new gig. I hope it’s every thing you want & need it to be.

Till next time this is Jonny Bone reminding every one, yes, even you. That the light at the end of the tunnel, may be you.

Always keep makin it bounce.

PEACE.

Today marks the sixth anniversary of the passing of beloved Cardinals pitcher, husband & father, Darryl Kyle. I remember exactly where I was when I heard the news.

I was visiting HUGE down in Springfield, and we were getting ready to go out & get a late lunch. We turned on the local FOX affiliate to check the score real quick, and were surprised the game wasn’t on. For some reason there wasn’t another game on, we thought there must be a rain delay up in the windy city. So HUGE started channel surfing trying to find out when the game would start. He went to the weather channel & saw there was no rain any where close to the windy city. Then he hopped around some other channel till he hit FOX NEWS and there was Joe Buck talking to a visibly shaken Tony. But all we heard was Joe thanking Tony for the interview & sending it back to the studio. That’s when the screen showed a picture of DK with the dates 1968 – 2002 under it. Then anchor said, “Again, repeating this breaking news. St. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Darryl Kyle was found dead this morning in his Chicago area hotel room.”

I was standing and HUGE was sitting on the couch, and when I heard & saw that I stumbled back and fell into a chair. I could not believe what I had just seen & heard. I looked at HUGE & said something along the line that there was no way he was dead. On the drive out there, I had just listened to him on KMOX pitch the Cardinals into the division lead the day Jack died. He was completely healthy. He was the staff Ace. He was the team leader. There’s no way on GOD’s green earth that he was dead. I called my dad to see if he had heard the news. My dad had just gotten home from a hard morning at work, and wasn’t in the best mood to begin with. But the second I heard his voice I knew some thing was wrong. He confirmed he had seen the start of the game & heard Joe Girardi’s speech, and he had seen all of Joe’s interview with Tony. He said DK was gone, but he didn’t know what happened.

(Side note, that’s the last conservation I remember having with my dad before he got hurt & sick. I know I had hundreds of them in the few months between DK’s death & dads injury. But I don’t remember any of them. I only remember that one phone call. It’s funny what sticks in your mind isn’t it?)

The rest the day is a bit of a blur. I do remember we left shortly after hearing the news & met up with some of HUGE’s friends for that late lunch. But after that, other than watching ESPN non stop that night, I really don’t remember much. I guess that’s for the best. I was pretty shaken up, and still am. It’s just makes no sence. I know he had a heart condition, and his family had a history of heart problems. But still, with the best of the best DR’s at their disposal, MLB players should not die suddenly in their sleep. That just shouldn’t happen.

But I digress. Today isn’t a day to trash the Cards medical staff. Today is a day to look back & reflect on Darryl Kyle. To this day, his loss is still being felt, not only by the Cardinals, but by his family. I can’t imagine what this day will be like for Flynn & his three kids. I ask every one who reads this to say a prayer for them. It can’t be easy for them. Also this day can’t be easy for his teammates. There’s not many left on the Cardinals, Albert & IZZY are the only two that come to mind at this late hour. Of course most of the coaches are still the same. So it goes without saying, it’s not going to be an easy day for all of them. I know it’s going to be hard to focus on the Sox today, but I hope they can push threw it.

That’s it, that’s all I have for today. Go out & sweep the Sox boys. Make DK proud.

Till next time, this is Jonny Bone reminding every one, yes, even you. That the light at the end of the tunnel may be you.

Always keep makin it bounce.

I wish I had some thing good to say tonight about the Cardinals & their just concluded series vs the F’Ing Royals. The starting pitching was really good. There, that’s the only good thing I can say about the Red Birds. So instead of rehashing that mess, and looking forward to the fun that awaits the Cards in F’ing bean town this weekend, I’m going to post the top 50 career earners in MLB history. And I urge each and every one of you parents, aunts & uncles out there, to ever so gently, (I SAID GENTLY PEOPLE!!!!) push your sons towards a career as a MLB player. I ran across this list by accident looking for some thing else at Baseball Reference, and I just had to post it. I have two nephews, and HUGE has NATE DOGG, so of those kids is going to make it to the show. I guarantee it. And once I post the list after the jump, you’ll understand why. It’s jaw dropping the amount of coin these guys have made. I am literally stunned at some of the name on this list. There are some guys on here that are truly average players. But the amounts they’ve earned during their careers is simply stunning. And guess what folks? The salaries are only going higher & higher & higher & higher.

Today mark the sixth anniversary of the day we lost Jack Buck. It goes without saying that ATAW wouldn’t be ATAW without Jack. I can’t even begin to express how much the man has meant to me personally. To this day, almost every time I hear his voice I get a little choked up & get some tears in my eyes. My favorite memories of him are not really good years for our Cardinals. I used to spend at least a month down on my grandparents farm in south east Missouri every summer. And they didn’t have cable, so the only way I could follow the Cardinals was by listening to Jack & Mike call the games on KMOX. Those years were mainly from 1988 – 1996. And even though those were for the most part very lean years, they will always have a special place in my heart because for almost every summer night, I’d fall asleep listening to Jack.

Here is the last time we all got to see Jack. It’s one of his finer moments. Not just as a broadcaster, but as a human being.

And I dare any one to watch this without losing it.

Thanks for every thing Jack. You will never be forgotten.

Till next time, this is Jonny Bone reminding every one, yes, even you. That the light at the end of the tunnel, may be you.

Go crazy folks! Go crazy!

PEACE.
