2006 WS/Season Recap

As promised here are my thoughts on the 2006 World Series Champion St.Louis Cardinals. So sit back, relax, grab a cup of your favorite beverage, and enjoy.

IT WAS BRUTAL. THEY STARTED OFF GREAT. APRIL AND MAY WERE RECORD SETTING MONTHS. ALBERT WAS JUST OUT OF THIS WORLD. THE PITCHING WAS STELLAR. IT SEAMED LIKE EVERONE WAS HITTING EXCEPT JUAN. HE REALLY SUCKED HARD CORE. MOST SAID HE WAS TRYING TOO HARD TO IMPRESS EVERYONE. I JUST THINK HE IS A BAD HITTER, HE IS WAY TO STREAKY. PLUS HE HAS THE WORST SWING IN BASEBALL. HE LOOKS LIKE HE IS CHOPPING WOOD. MOST SAY WALT’S WORST SINGING OF LAST OFFSEASON WAS JUNIOR SPIVEY SINCE HE NEVER HIT AND SPENT THE YEAR IN MEMPHIS. BUT I SAY IT WAS JUAN. EVENTHOUGH HE SAYED THE OUTFIELD ONCE JIMMY WENT DOWN. THERE IS NO WAY HE HIT WELL ENOUGH TO STAY IN THE LINEUP. .260 19HR’s& 80 RBI’s JUST DOES NOT CUT IT. HE IS A PRETTY GOOD OUTFIELDER, BUT WHEN PLAYING RIGHT FIELD, HE REGULARY TUNRS SINGLES INTO DOUBLES, AND DOUBLES INTO TRIPLES. ODD BECAUSE WHEN HE IS IN CENTER, HE SEAMS TO GET TO EVERYTHING. I REALLY HOPE THEY TRADE HIM. ESPECIALLY SINCE HE SKIPPED THE PARADE BECAUSE HE WAS POUTING THAT HE DID NOT PLAY THE LAST 3 GAMES OF THE WORLD SERIES. AND THIS TEAM DOES NOT NEED PLAYERS WHO POUT LIKE THAT, AND SHOW UP THE ENTIRE ORGANIZATION LIKE THAT. HE PRETTY MUCH SLAPPED EVERYONE IN THE FACE BY SKIPPING THE PARADE. AND IF HE FEELS LIKE THAT, THEN HIT THE DOOR.

OK, SORRY TO GO OFF ON JUAN. BUT LIKE THE REGUALR SEASON DID, HE JUST PISSED ME OFF SO MUCH. OK, WHERE WAS I? OH YEAH, APRIL AND MAY ROCKED. THEN CAME JUNE. NO MONTH HURT MORE THAN JUNE. THE BOTTOM LITERALLY FELL OUT OF THE SEASON. MULDER, IZZY,ALBERT,EDMONDS,ECK,CARP ALL HURT. ACTUALLY CARP WAS HURT IN LATE MAY, BUT CLOSE ENOUGH. NO ONE KNEW WHAT WAS WRONG WITH MULDER. ALL WE KNEW WAS HE COULD NOT EXTEND HIS ARM TO GET THE PROPER EXTENSION WHEN HE THREW. AND BY THE TIME HE CAME BACK OFF THE DL, NOTHING HAD CHANGED. HE STILL COULD NOT EXTEND HIM ARM. SO MORE TESTS WERE RUN, AND FINALLY A TEAR WAS FOUND AND FIXED IN HIS SHOULDER. ENDING HIS SEASON. AND WHAT I FELT WAS OUR BEST BET AT BEATING THE METS IN THE PLAYOFFS. BECAUSE OF ALL THE LEFTYS ON THEIR TEAM, THEY COULD NOT HIT A LEFTY PITCHER. AND MULDER HAS BEEN THE BEST LEFTY IN THE GAME SINCE 2002. BIG, HUGE BLOW TO OUR WORLD SERIES WINNING HOPES.ALBERT’s INJURY WAS SCARY. THANKFULLY HE IS A QUICK HEALER AND CAME BACK. BUT HIS HOT STREAK WAS OVER. NO MORE RECORD SETTING HOME RUN&RBI PACE. FROM THEN ON HE WAS *NORMAL* PUJOLS. MEANING HE WAS SIMPLY SUPERHUMAN, NOT OUT OF THIS WORLD BATSHIT CRAZY. ECK HAD A CONCUSSION PLAYING PITTSBURGH, AND WAS NEVER RIGHT TILL AFTER HE COME BACK FROM THE DL FROM THE SAME INJURY ALBERT HAD. CARP WAS OK TOO AFTER HIS STINT. BUT EDMONDS, IZZY&MULDER WERE NEVER RIGHT. NO FANS KNEW WHAT WAS WRONG WITH IZZY. AND I THINK THATS WRONG. THE DUDE’s HIP WAS KILLING HIM. HE COULD NOT LAND RIGHT,AND THAT THREW OFF ALL HIS PITCHES. ESPECIALLY HIS BREAD&BUTTER, THE CUTTER. IT LOST ALL MOVEMENT, AND JUST SPUN IN THE ZONE SCREAMING *HIT THE EFFIN CRAP OUT OF ME PLEASE!* I KNOW ATHLETES TAKE GREAT PRIDE IN PLAYING THREW PAIN. BUT HE AND MULDER REALLY HURT THIS TEAMS REGULAR SEASON BY NOT STEPPING UP SOONER AND TELLING THE TEAM THAT THEY WERE NOT RIGHT, AND COULD NO LONGER PITCH. WE ALL SAW HOW MUCH YOUNG AWesome EMBRACED THE CLOSERS ROLE. AND HOW WELL HE DID. DUDE WAS NOT UNHITTABLE, BUT HE DIDN’T BREAK WHEN THE PRESSURE WAS ON. MULDER STEPPING UP SOONER AND NOT TRYING TO REHAB WOULD HAVE BEEN MORE OF AN ISSUE. SID WAS ALLREADY DFA’ed. THE COACHING STAFF OBVIOUSLY DID NOT TRUST REYES. MARQUIS WAS TERRIABLE. SUP HAD YET TO HIT HIS STRIDE. AND THERE WAS NO PITCHING TO BE HAD ON THE TRADE MARKET BECAUSE EVERYONE WAS ASKING FOR REYES&AWesome. AND WHEN THEY FINALLY GOT DREAM WEAVER, HE WAS A WRECK,AND IT TOOK 3 MONTHS FOR DUNCAN’s MAGIC TO WORK.SO, WHAT HAPPENED? WE JUST FLAT GOT KILLED. TWO 8 GAMES LOOSING STREAKS. ONE 7 GAME LOOSING STREAK. OUR OFFENSE WAS EATHER KILLING THE BALL, OR SWINGING AND MISSING AT EVERYTHING. NO ONE COULD FIND ANY RHYTHM. SURE THERE WERE BRIGHT SPOTS. CHRIS DUNCAN CAME UP HUGE. JUAN DID HAVE A GOOD 3 MONTHS. BEFORE THE ALL-STAR BREAK SCOTTY ROLEN WAS KILLING THE BALL. AND ALBERT WAS ALBERT. PRESTON WILSON GAVE A PUSH WHEN HE SIGHNED IN LATE AUGUST. *WILD TURKEY’S FOR EVERYONE* GARY BENNETT SINGLE HANDLY WON A SERIES AGINST THE CUBS IN AUGUST TOO. BUT THATS WAS IT AS FAR AS THE OFFENSE. THE ONE BAT THEY DID GET TO HELP THE HITTING NEVER HIT. RONNIE *GANSTA LUV* BELLIARD NEVER PANNED OUT. BUT HE DID PLAY STELLAR D. HE SAVED GAME 1 AGINST THE FATHERS IN THE LDS.

SO THEY WERE A SUB .500 BALLCLUB THAT IF NOT FOR PLAYING IN THE EQUALLY WEAK NL CENTRAL DIVISION, WOULD HAVE NEVER MADE THE PLAYOFFS. BUT BECAUSE THE REDS&HOUSTON WERE PLAYING WORSE THAN THE CARDINALS. THEY DID WIN THE DIVISION. AND THEY DID MAKE THE PLAYOFFS. AND ONCE THEY DID, AS I SAID ON THE VIVA EL BIRDOS BLOG THAT ANYTHING CAN AND WILL HAPPEN IN THE PLAYOFFS. AND THANK GOD IT DID.

HERE IS WHAT I THINK HAPPENED. NO ONE, NOT ME,ESPN OR ANY OTHER PUNDANT PICKED THE CARDINAL TO EVEN BEAT THE FATHERS. SO WHAT HAPPENED? THE CARDINALS TOOK THAT DISRESPECT AND RAN WITH IT. EVERYONE WAS FINALLY HEALTHY AND ALL CYLINDERS WERE CLICKING. JIMMY FINALLY CLEARED HIS HEAD. LITTLE FELLA ECK DID THE SAME ALONG WITH HEALING HIS SIDE. ALL THE WORK DUNCAN PUT INTO DREAM WEAVER FINALLY STARTED PAYING OFF. THE YOUNG GUYS IN THE BULLPEN WHO STRUGGLED IN THE REGUALR SEASON GETTING LEFT HANDED HITTERS OUT, FINALLY STARTED GETTING LEFT HANDED HITTERS OUT. TJ,FLORES,KINNEY,THOMPSON,HANCOCK. ALL STEPPED UP BIG TIME AND GOT THE OUTS WHEN THEY WERE CALLED ON TO GET OUTS. AWesome WAS JUST THAT. AWESOME. AND DON’T FORGET LOOPER. I PICKED HIM AS THE CLOSER BECAUSE I THOUGHT AWesome WAS TOO YOUNG. BUT HE STAYED AS A SETUP GUY, AND DID VERY WELL. IZZY CAME BACK AFTER THE SURGERY ON HIS HIP AND WAS ANOTHER PITCHING COACH IN THE BULLPEN, AND I THINK DID A GREAT JOB IN HELPING ALL THE KIDS DO WELL. IT SAYS A LOT ABOUT HIM THAT AFTER ALL THE CRAP HE TOOK FROM THE FANS DURING SEASON, THAT HE DIDN’T JUST PACK IT IN AND GO HOME. BUT STAYED WITH THE CLUB AND DID A GREAT JOB COACHING THE KIDS.

TONY HAD TO TELLTHE TEAM BEFORE THE LDS TO JUST PLAY LOOSE&FREE. THERE WAS NO PRESSURE ON THEM TO WIN. JUST HAVE FUN AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS. LEAVE EVERYTHING THEY HAD ON THE FIELD, AND GOOD THINGS WILL HAPPEN. AND WOULDN’T YOU KNOW IT, THATS JUST WHAT HAPPENED.

ONCE THE PLAYOFFS STARTED THE TEAM PULLED TOGETHER AND STARTED PLAYING LIKE A TEAM. MOST EVERYONE DOING THE LITTLE THINGS IT TAKES TO WIN. THE PITCHING WAS AMAZING. STARTING WITH CARP, WHO WON THE LDS FOR THEM. HE HAD TO WIN HIS TWO GAMES, AND HE DID. WEAVER DID A OUTSTANDING JOB OF GETTING THEIR LEFTYS OUT. JUST OUTSTANDING. ODDLY THE ONLY LOSS WAS WHEN SUP PITCHED. BUT THAT WAS MORE OF THE OFFENSE SWINGING AT PITCHES AROUND THEIR NECK, AND GETTING THEMSELVES OUT. THAN SUP GIVING UP 4 RUNS. THEY WON THE LDS WITH RELATIVE EASE.

IN THE LCS THE METS WERE JUST BEAT. FLAT OUT BEAT. THEY HAD 3 LEFTY PITCHERS WHO SHOULD HAVE BEATEN THE CARDINALS. BECAUSE IF THERE WAS ONE WAY TO BEAT THE CARDINALS IN 2006, IT WAS TO HAVE A LEFTY PITCHER START AGINST THEM. BUT GIVE MAJOR PROPS TO THE CARDINALS PITCHING STAFF. OTHER THAN GAME 4, THEY HELD *THE BEST OFFENSE SINCE THE 2006 YANKEES* DOWN. HERE ARE THE SCORES FROM ALL 7 GAMES

1 2-0 METS
2 9-6 CARDS
3 5-0 CARDS
4 12-5 METS
5 4-2 CARDS
6 4-2 METS
7 3-1 CARDS

THATS 27 RUNS IN 7 GAMES. PRETTY GOOD JOB BY THE CARDNALS IF YOU ASK ME. CONSIDERING THEY ONLY SCORED 23 RUNS. THOW OUT THE GAME 4 BLOW OUT. AND THE CARDINALS ACTUALLY OUT SCORED THE METS. FACT IS THE CARDINALS HITTERS GOT THE BIG HIT WHEN THEY NEEDED IT. AND THE METS DID NOT. THE CARDINALS PITCHERS GOT THE BIG OUT WHEN THEY NEEDED IT. AND THE METS DID NOT. PERFECT EXAMPLE IS GAME 7, BOTTOM OF THE 9TH, 2 OUTS, BASES LOADED, CARLOS BELTRAN AT THE PLATE. POSTSEASON CARDINALS KILLER. AND WHAT HAPPENS? AWesome STARTS HIM OFF WITH A CHANGE UP RIGHT DOWN THE MIDDLE. STRIKE ONE. CARLOS DOESN’T GET THE BAT OFF HIS SHOULDER. AWesome THEN THROWS A CURVE THAT CARLOS FOULS OFF AT HIS FEET FOR STRIKE TWO. THEN, WITH A 0-2 COUNT, AWesome GOES FOR THE KILL SHOT. GRABS THE METS BY THE NECK, AND TWISTS THEIR HEADS OFF WITH A CURVE THAT BROKE WITH A PERFECT 12-6 ACTION THAT FROZE CARLOS FOR STRIKE THREE. STRIKE THREE!!!! HE STANDS THERE FROZEN WITH THE BAT ON HIS SHOULDERS. GAME O V E R.

THE CARDINALS WIN THE PENNANT!! THE CARDINALS WIN THE PENNANT!!

WITH YADDA YADDA YADDA HITTING THE GAME WINNING & SERIES WINNING HOMER IN THE TOP OF THE INNING. SUP PITCHING THE GAME OF HIS LIFE FOR THE PREVIOUS 8. IT WAS A PERFECT VICTORY TO CLOSE OUT A CLASSIC SERIES. THE METS TOOK THE CARDINALS LIGHTLY. THEY BELIEVED THE HYPE ABOUT THEMSELVES THAT THEY WERE UNBEATABLE AND DESERVED A SPOT IN THE WORLD SERIES. AND THATS WHY THEY PLAY THE GAMES. FOR YEARS THE CARDINALS WERE IN THE SAME SPOT. HEAVY FAVORITES. SUSPOSSED TO NOT ONLY GET TO THE WORLD SERIES, BUT WIN MORE THAN ONE. BUT THAT NEVER HAPPENED. THEY ONLY GOT TO ONE WORLD SERIES, AND THEY BENT OVER FOR BOSTON. NOW THE METS FEEL OUR PAIN. NOW THEIR FANS WILL SPEND A WINTER PONDERING THE WHAT IF’s. GOOD FOR THEM. FEW OTHER NL TEAMS, AND THEIR FANS DESERVE TO LOOSE AS MUCH LIKE THE METS DID.

NOW THE WORLD SERIES. IN COLD COLD DETROIT. FACING THE MIGHTY& POWERFUL TIGERS. WHO’S HARD THROWING PITCHERS WERE SUSPOSSED TO OVERPOWER THE CARDINALS HITTERS. AND THE TIGERS HITTERS WERE SUSPOSSED TO KILL OUR WEAK TOSSING PITCHERS. BUT THAT DIDN’T HAPPEN DID IT? NO. WITH ONLY A DAY TO PREPARE DAVE DUNCAN PUT A PLAN TOGETHER TO STOP THIER HITTERS. AND HAL MCCRAE PUT TOGETHER A PLAN TO GET TO THIER HARD THROWING PITCHERS. GAME ONE WAS PERFECT. A 7-2 CONVINCING VICTORY THAT ALMOST DIDN’T HAPPEN. IN THE BOTTOM OF THE 1ST REYES ALMOST GAVE IT ALL AWAY. THE TIGERS WERE SITTING ON HIS OFFSPEED PITCH. AND HE GAVE UP ONE QUICK RUN. BUT THEN HE CAME BACK IN THE BOTTOM OF THE SECOND INNING THROWING HARD GAS. GAVE THEM A TASTE OF THEIR OWN MEDICINE. AND PROCEDED TO SET DOWN THE NEXT 17 BATTERS IN A ROW. THATS RIGHT, 17! UNBELIEVEABLE! OUR HITTERS WORE DOWN THE YOUNG VERLANDER QUICKLY AND GOT TO HIM FOR 6 RUNS. SCOTTY CAME BACK WITH A SOLO HOME RUN IN THE SECOND. THEN DUNCAN DOUBLED, AND ALBERT HOMERED IN THE 3RD TO BLOW IT OPEN. ERRORS BY DETROIT GAVE THEM 3 MORE EASY RUNS IN THE 6TH. AND THE ROUT WAS ON.

GAME TWO WAS A DIFFERENT STORY. SIMPLY BECAUSE A SOFT TOSSING LEFTY NAMED KENNY ROGERS. AND *TARGATE*. SOME SAY HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN EJECTED. SOME SAY TONY DID THE PERFECT THING. AFTER HEARING ALL THE FACTS, I AGREE WITH TONY. ALTHOUGH I WOULD HAVE LOVED TO SEE KEENY KICKED OUT FOR CHEATING. IF TONY WOULD HAVE DONE THAT, THEN JIM LEYLAND WOULD HAVE TIRED TO DO THE SAME WITH SOME OF OUR PITCHERS. AND NOBODY WANTED TO SEE THAT. SO I AGREE WITH WHAT TONY DID. JUST HAVE ROGERS CLEAN HIS HAND, AND KEEP GOING. BUT IT TURNS OUT THAT DIDN’T MATTER. THE 2006 CARDINALS CANNOT HIT A SOFT TOSING LEFTY PITCHER. EVENTHOUGH THEY DEFEATED GLAVIN ONCE IN THE NLCS, THEY STILL LOST THE FIRST GAME HE PITCHED. AND THATS WHAT HAPPENED IN GAME TWO.

GAME 3 WAS PROBABLY THE MOST RELAXING GAME OF A WORLD SERIES I HAVE EVER WATCHED. CHRIS CARPENTER SHOWED WHY HE SHOULD WIN BACK-TO-BACK CY YOUNG AWARDS. HE SIMPLY SHUT DOWN THE TIGERS. MADE THEM LOOK SILLY. EVERY PITCH HE HAD WAS WORKING. JIMMY DROVE IN ALBERT AND SCOTTY IN THE 4TH WITH A DOUBLE, AND THAT WAS ALL CARP NEEDED. FOR 8 INNINGS HE THREW 79 PITCHES, STRUCK OUT 6,AND ONLY GAVE UP 3 LITTLE HITS. MORE DETROIT PITCHERS ERRORS IN THE 7TH&8TH GAVE THE CARDINALS MORE RUNS. BUT IT DIDN’T MATTER. WITH CARP PITCHING ALL THEY NEEDED WAS 1 RUN. IT WAS A TOTALY DOMINATING PERFORMANCE BY THE ENTIRE CARDINALS TEAM. A VERY EASY AND RELAXING GAME TO WATCH.

GAME 4 WAS A DIFFERENT STORY. SUP DIDN’T HAVE HIS BEST STUFF, BUT HE FAUGHT THREW IT AND PITCHED A SOLID 6 INNINGS GIVING UP ONLY 3 RUNS ON 8 HITS. WITH 2 WALKS AND 4Ks. KENNY, TJ, LOOPER&AWesome CLOSED IT OUT. ON THE HITTING SIDE, LITTLE MAN DESIDED IT WAS HIS TIME TO SHINE, AND HE SIMPLY TOOK OVER. HE WENT 4-5 WITH 3 DOUBLES AND 2 RBIs. HE WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF 3 OF THE 4 SCORING PLAYS. IN THE 3RD HE DOUBLED IN MILES. IN THE 7TH HE HAD WHAT MIGHT BE THE PLAY OF THE SERIES WHEN GRANDERSON FELL DOWN TRYING TO GET TO HIS DOUBLE. MORE THROWING ERRORS BY THE TIGERS GAVE THE CARDINALS ANOTHER RUN. THEN IN THE 8TH AFTER THE GAME WAS TIED AT 4 AFTER LOOPER GAVE UP A RUN SCORING DOUBLE TO INGE, THE LITTLE MAN STEPPED TO THE PLATE AGAIN. THIS TIME HE DOUBLED TO LEFT, JUST BEARLY OUT OF REACH OF CRAIG MONROE. WITH ANOTHER ASSIS FROM MOTHER NATURE. BECAUSE I FEEL IF THE TURF HAD BEEN DRY, MONROE HAS THAT BALL, AND MILES MIGHT NOT HAVE SCORED THE WINNING RUN. ANOTHER THRILLING VICTORY BY EVERYONES FAVORITE UNDERDOGS. WELL, MAYBE NOT.

COULD IT BE? NO. IT CAN’T BE. ARE MY CARDINALS, MY 83 REGULAR SEASON WIN CARDINALS, ARE THEY NOW 1 GAME AWAY FROM A WORLD SERIES VICTORY? SERIOUSLY? HOW ARE THEY GOING TO LOOSE IT NOW? NOW THEY ARE GOING TO IMPLODE. DETROIT HAS TO WAKE UP AND REALIZE THEY ARE DOWN 3 GAMES TO 1 WITH ALL OF ST. LOUIS READY TO EXPLODE. WELL, READ ON. AS IF YOU DON’T ALLREADY KNOW WHATS GOING TO HAPPEN.

GAME 5 WAS THE RETURN OF JEFF WEAVER AS A SHUT DOWN PITCHER. OTHER THAN A ILL ADVISED LOW&IN PITCH TO THE RED HOT CASEY, HE WAS OUTSTANDING. HE BAFFLED THE TIGERS HITTERS ALL NIGHT LONG. COMPLETLY SHUTTING THEM DOWN. IT WAS A PERFECT FINAL GAME OF THE YEAR FOR THE 2006 ST. LOUIS CARDINALS. AFTER ALL THEY HAD BEEN THROUGH. AFTER ALL THE INJURIES, LOOSING STREAKS, BAD HITTING & WORSE PITCHING. WITH ALL THE DFA’ed PLAYERS ON THE CARDINALS, IT WAS PERFECT THAT PROBABLY THE WORST OF THEM, JEFF WEAVER CLOSED OUT THE WORLD SERIES ON THE MOUND. HE WAS LEFT FOR DEAD WHEN THE ANGELS DFA’ed HIM,AND THEN TRADED HIM TO THE CARDINALS. IT WAS ALSO AT FIRST A VERY SLOPPY GAME BY THE CARDINALS. WITH ALBERT GETTING THROWN OUT, AND DUNCAN COMMITIG AN ERROR ON ONE FLY BALL, AND WHAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN ANOTHER ON MORE OF A LINE DRIVE TO DEEP RIGHT. I FEEL TERRIABLE FOR CHRIS DUNCAN. THAT DUDE PLAYED HIS ASS OFF ALL SEASON LONG FOR THIS TEAM. IT WAS SO WRONG THAT IN THE FINAL GAME, HE HAD TWO FIELDING ERRORS. THE HOME CROWED WAS BOOING HIM. AND THE MORONIC TIM MCCARVER IN THE BOOTH WAS BY THE 4TH INNING SAYING ON NATIONAL TELEVISION THAT TONY NEEDED TO PULL HIM NOW THAT THE CARDINALS HAD THE LEAD. JIMMY SIMPLY SPOOKED HIM ON THE FIRST ERROR. AND THE SECOND WAS BY NO MEANS A EASY CAN OF CORN. IT WAS A LINE DRIVE TO THE WALL BY CASEY. BUT IT WAS JEFF WEAVER’S NIGHT. AND HE GOT THE OUTS RIGHT AFTER THE SECOND ERROR, I MEAN HIT BY CASEY AT BABY DUNC. LITTLE MAN ECK WAS ONCE AGAIN IN THE MIDDLE OF MOST OF THE SCORING BY THE CARDINALS. IN THE 2ND HE SCORED MOLINA AFTER A WILD THROW BY INGE. IN THE 4TH HIS GROUND OUT SCORED SO TAGUCHI. AND IN THE 7TH HE CAME HOME FROM SECOND ON SCOTTY’S TWO OUT CLUTCH HIT SINGLE TO RIGHT. AND THATS ALL DREAM WEAVER AND AWesome WOULD NEED. EVENTHOUGH HE HAD THE TYING RUNNERS ON BASE AGAIN IN THE BOTTOM ON THE NINTH. WHEN IT WAS TIME, HE BROUGHT OUT THE HAMMER AND CLOSED THE DOOR ON THE TIGERS. HE GOT AHEAD OF INGE 0-2, THEN WHEN EVERYONE EXPECTED THE MIGHTY 12-6 CURVE, HE THREW UP THERE A SLIDER. THAT BROKE THE TIGERS HEART. AND BROUGHT JOY AND HAPPYNESS ALL ACCROSS CARDINALS NATION.

BEDLIM INSUED. ALL OF ST. LOUIS ROCKED. FINALLY, THE ST. LOUIS CARDINALS ARE CHAMPIONS OF THE WORLD.

THE CARDINALS WIN THE WORLD SERIES!! THE ST. LOUIS CARDINALS WIN THE WORLD SERIES!!

“I DON’T BELIEVE IT! I JUST DON’T FREAKIN BELIEVE IT DAD! THEY WON! I DON’T KNOW HOW THE DID IT. BUT THE CARDINALS JUST WON THE WORLD SERIES!”

THATS PRETTY MUCH EXACTLY WHAT I SAID TO DAD AS INGE STRUCK OUT. I WAS LAUGHING AND CRYING. IT WAS AMAZING. EVEN AFTER GOING BACK OVER THE LAST MONTHS EVENTS, I STILL CAN’T BELIVE OUR CARDINALS DID IT. I CAN’T BELIVE THEY WON THE WORLD SERIES. THROUGH THE ENTIRE NLCS I PRAYED TO GOD TO NOT LET THEM LOSE TO THE METS. JUST DON’T LET THAT HAPPEN. I REALLY DON’T LIKE THE METS. AND THEIR PITCHING WAS JUST WEAK ENOUGH THAT I THOUGHT THE CARDINALS SHOULD BEAT THEM. BUT AS IT TURNED OUT, IT WASN’T SO MUCH THE HITTING THAT BEAT THEM, IT WAS THE CARDINALS SURPRISING PITCHING. AND IT WAS THE PITCHING THAT LEAD THE WAY TO THE WORLD SERIES VICTORY. OUR PITCHING WAS JUST OUTSTANDING DURING THE ENTIRE MONTH OF OCTOBER. WE ONLY HIT .209 FOR THE WORLD SERIES. NOT EXACTLY RIPPING THE COVER OFF THE BALL. BUT OUR PITCHERS HELD DOWN THE MIGHT TIGERS OFFENCE. THAT AFTER FURTHER EXAMINATION WASN’T ALL THAT BIG AND BAD. TURNS OUT ALL SEASON LONG THEY REALIED FAR TO MUCH ON THE LONG BALL. AND WHEN THEY HIT HOMERS, THEY WON. WHEN THEY DIDN’T, THEY HAD A HARD TIME SCORING RUNS, AND LOST. THATS WHY THEY, LIKE THE CARDINALS FINISHED BELOW .500 AFTER THE ALL-STAR BREAK. THEY FACED BETTER PITCHING OVER THE FINALY HALF OF THE YEAR, AND THEN DID NOT HIT AS MANY HOME RUNS. AND THATS ULTIMATELY WHY THE TIGERS LOST. NOT ALL THE ERRORS. IT WAS THEIR HITTING. THEY COULD NOT HIT THE LONG BALL AGINST THE CARDINALS PITCHERS WITH REGULARITY.

AS FOR MY PERSONAL FEELINGS. WELL THIS GUY SAYS IT BEST. AFTER YOU READ IT, I’LL TRY TO PUT IT ALL TOGETHER.

http://www.insidestl.com/stlsports/index.php?storyid=551

WELL, AFTER ALL THESE YEARS OF NEVER WINNING IT ALL. THE CARDINALS FINALLY HAVE A WORLD SERIES TITLE. NUMBER 10 FOR THE BEST FRANCHISE THE NATIONAL LEAGUE HAS EVER SEEN. IT WAS PERFECT THAT THIS CARDINALS TEAM, OF ALL THE RECENT CARDINALS TEAMS WON THE WORLD SERIES. ON PAPER THE 2004 105 WIN MONSTER SHOULD HAVE WON IT. 2005 100 WIN SQUAD SHOULD HAVE AS WELL. BOTH YEARS WERE FILLED WITH EASY REAGUAL SEASON WINS. FOLLOWED BY POSTSEASON PITFALLS. THOSE TEAMS CHOKED UNDER THE PRESSUED OF THE FAVORITES PICKED BY THE ESPN AND THE PRESS TO WIN IT ALL. THEY LET FAR INFORIOR TEAMS FROM BOSTON&HOUSTON KNOCK THEM OUT OF THE PLAYOFFS. THEY LET THE PRESSUE GET TO THEM. TONY LET THE PRESSURE GET TO HIM. BUT THIS YEAR, THIS YEAR THEY WERE NOT EVEN SUSPOSSED TO BE THERE. THEY WERE SUSPOSSED TO BE EASILY BEATEN BY THE FATHERS. BUT THAT DIDN’T HAPPEN. THEY RAISED UP AND OUT PLAYED EVERYONE. TONY LET THE YOUNG KIDS IN THE BULLPEN FINISH OFF GAMES. HE HAD NO OTHER OPTION. THERE WAS NO ONE ELSE TO DO IT. EVERY DECISION HE MADE SEAMED TO BE THE RIGHT ONE. OUR HITTERS, ALTHOUGH THEY DID NOT CRUSH THE BALL, GOT THE BIG HITS WHEN IT MATTERED. WHO KNEW YADDA YADDA YADDA WHO HIT .218 FOR THE REGUAL SEASON WOULD HIT FOR ALMOST .400 FOR THE POST SEASON. HE HIT WHEN IT MATTERED MOST. JIMMY GOT HEALTHY AT THE RIGHT TIME TOO. HE PLAYED GREAT D IN CENTER, AND GOT MORE KEY HITS WHEN IT MATTERED. WHO EXPECTED THE CARDINALS TO WIN JUST ONE GAME IN THE WORLD SERIES WHEN THE GREATEST PLAYER OF OUR DAY HITS JUST .200 WITH 1 HOME RUN,& 2 RBI’s? THATS RIGHT. THATS ALBERT PUJOLS LINE FOR THE WORLD SERIES.

YET THEY DID IT. THEY WON THE 2006 WORLD SERIES. AND ARE THE CHAMPIONS OF THE WORLD. AS YOU MIGHT GUESS, IT IS A VERY EMOTIONAL WIN FOR ME. LIKE I SAID, WHEN AWesome GOT LIDGE OUT, I WAS LAUGHING AND CRYING. IT GOES WITHOUT SAYING I AM VERY VERY HAPPY. I AM FILLED WITH PRIDE THAT MY HOME TOWN TEAM FINALLY WON A CHAMPIONSHIP WHILE I WAS AROUND TO WATCH IT ALL GO DOWN AND ENJOY IT. MOSTLY I AM FILLED WITH A SENCE OF SATISFACTION THAT ITS FINALLY OVER. THE CARDINALS FINALLY WON. EVERYTHING I HAVE WANTED OUT OF BASEBALL FOR SO LONG HAS FINALLY COME TRUE. ITS FINALLY OVER. WE WON! WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS OF THE FREAKIN WORLD!!

Tomorrow I’ll give everyone my thoughts on what’s next for the Cardinals. I am very happy Jimmy is coming back for two years. Seeing him in any other uniform would not have seamed right. My hope is, and I am sure the Cardinals share this, that the Jimmy from 2004 returns and has a monster two years. He has said he wants to retire a Cardinal. Well, now he has his chance. Hope you enjoyed my thoughts on the year. Let me know what you thought by leaving a comment. Thanks, and have a good night now.
