Holy Cow He’s At It Again

That dude Ankiel, he might just stick around for a while you know?

OK this is going to be short and sweet. I know I’ve been gone for what seams like forever. And there really is a valid excuse why. I just can’t tell you why now. But rest assured when I do, I’ll drop it like it’s hot. Whatever that means.

Any way, last nights game was a hoot. Due to the usual Friday night company visiting dad, I didn’t really get to absorb the game like I do when I don’t have to explain to every body what just happened. But what I did get to absorb was the usual good & bad play the Cards have shown all season long. First off Anthony couldn’t pitch his way out of a wet paper bad last night. That’s not good. After a few promising starts, he’s gone back to his bad ways of giving up extra base hit after extra base hit. Thankfully Tony & Dave quickly recognized that Friday night just wasn’t Anthony’s night and they pulled him in the second inning before he let the game get out of hand. Then Welley & the bullpen pitched 8 innings of 1 run baseball. Solid work all around. Big praise goes out to those guys.

Then there was the typical ugly bad luck we’ve seen happen so often to the Cards. Juan got smoked in the eye by a foul ball off Mini Me Miles’s bat while he was STANDING IN THE ON DECK CIRCLE. And by that I mean he was literally standing on the round tarp with a Cardinal on it watching Miles at bat. Dude that was scary ugly. I am no fan of Juan, but I don’t want to see him get hurt. I pray his eye sight isn’t damaged or worse. That was scary. The ball hit him so hard that it almost rolled all the way back to home plate. The side view that FSN Midwest showed it came right at Juan and he didn’t even move. He didn’t have time to. It was on him so fast I bet he never saw it. Dude didn’t have a chance. ATAW sends out our best wishes to Juan on a speedy recovery. We’re praying for you dude. We hope you are OK.

Then the unthinkable happened. With the Cards down 4-3 Rick Ankiel came to bat in the 6th inning with the bases loaded. *Every Day Eddie* was on the mound for the Reds. He got a quick strike on Ankiel, then threw a ball way outside. Then he made a very good pitch. It was a slider low and away. And what did Rick do with it?  He was actually fooled on the pitch, he was way out in front of it, but he kept his hands back, and just lounged at the ball with his bat. And hit a Grand Freaking Slam to right center field! Holy Cow! With one swing of the bat, the Cards are up 7-4, and Eddie and the Reds don’t know what hit them. I’ll tell you what hit them. a freaking Disney movie hit them that’s what. What Rick is doing is unimaginable. Unfreakingbelieveable. OH I almost forgot the best part, Rick is left handed. Eddie is left handed. Lefty hitter’s aren’t supposed to take a low & away slider from a lefty pitcher and pull it out of the park for a home run. Unless said pitcher hangs said slider. Which Eddie didn’t. It was a pretty dang good pitch, and Rick knocked it out for a freaking grand slam.

A left handed hitter is not suspposed to do that. But that’s our boy Rick in a nut shell. What he’s doing, no human being is suspposed to able to do. I’m sure glad he’s on our side.

UNBELIEVEABLE.

The game really had a lot of action packed into it. Josh Hamilton, the Reds very own feel good story of the season, did his thing by starting off the game with a solo shot. ECK got hit twice, WELLEY came in and was pretty good by holding the Reds scoreless for 3 innings. FLO didn’t give up any runs during his two innings. And Franklin did his usual thing by pitching two scoreless inning. He even got a RBI single. Edwin hit a inside the park home run for the Reds after DUNK tried to run threw the left field wall chasing after the ball. YADDA hit a home run. Jimmy drove in Albert in the bottom of the first. And promptly twisted his ankle trying to get back to second base. IZZY got a save. There were double plays a plenty. All in all a very rewarding victory for the Birds on the Bats.

The icing on the cake was Tony got his 1,042 win as the Cardinals manager. Over taking Red Schoendienst as the winningest manger in Cardinals history. Think about that for a minute all you Tony haters out there. (cough HUGE! cough) No other Cardinal manager has won more games that Tony La Russa. Now that my friends is unbelievable.

Well like I said, I’m keeping this short so I better wrap this puppy up. The Cards are back to one game below .500, and thanks to H-town they are 2 games back of the wee little bears. I’d feel a whole heck of a lot better about their chances if Anythony & KIPPY hadn’t started reverting back to their old crappy ways. Wagonmaker can’t be the only starter with quality starts. The rest of the rotation has to throw up quality start after quality start. Marky Mark did have a good start in his final rehab stint in Memphis. So he’s on his way back and will pitch next week. Not a good idea to depend on him to give us any thing. I’m afraid the Cards are going to out slug their opponents if they are going to win most of their games this month and play in October. And that’s all that’s left in the baseball season folks. One short 30 day month. Should be a wild & crazy ride. I hope to be here to walk every one through it. No promises of course. But I’ll try.

Make it a great Labor Day weekend every body.

Till next time this is Jonny Bone reminding every one, yes even you. That the light at the end of the tunnel, may be you.

Always make it bounce.

PEACE.
